As an author-owned independent publisher, we put our relationship with outside authors first. That’s why we try to provide comprehensive tools for understanding our submission process everywhere you might look. It’s also why we brought Barking Sycamores onboard and put its managing editor in charge of our NeuroQueer Books imprint.
While Barking Sycamores does not pay writers for initial publication, we have managed to bring its annual anthology into the fold, so every writer who authorizes their works for inclusion will see a paycheck at the same rates we offer for Spoon Knife contributors. We also offer some of the most generous royalties and benefits you will find from a traditional-model publisher.
- 15 percent of the list price for both paperbacks and electronic texts
- Walk-away contracts—you can pull your book if the relationship doesn’t work out
- Wholesale pricing for authors—and royalties paid on discounted author orders
- Featured Author profiles on the AutPress site and blog
- Authors retain translation rights
- Authors retain audiobook development rights
Beautiful, Professionally Formatted Books
Our layout is controlled by writers who started in the business as book designers, formatting specialists, editors, and typesetters. Your book will be handled as carefully as if it is one of our own, because we are familiar with how beautiful design choices can make a reading experience easier while reinforcing the mood of the book. All of our covers feature original art sourced from a pool of independent creative professionals, and we are always looking for new artists to work with. If you would like to show us your art, contact us through our online form and provide us with a link. We will let you know if we have any upcoming projects that fit your style.
We want to help everyone who works with us achieve the most success possible. If your work has appeared in any of our anthology publications and you have new work being featured in literary journals or new publications coming out, please send us a message and let us know. We might not be able to feature every publication on our blog, but we will announce it through our newsletter, and when we have enough announcements to make a blog post, we will provide our readers with author updates.
It doesn’t matter if you are writing an epic exploration of a single life in several volumes or you’re a writer who gave us a poem one time and then found another publishing home. We want to celebrate your achievements.
